Mr. Luther Martin, 67 years old, well known merchant of Olla, killed himself Wednesday evening at approximately 3:00. He was said to have shot himself with a 38 caliber pistol, the bullet entering his left chest which caused almost instance death. Mr. Martin has been a resident of Olla for the past 3 years, moving here from Summervile where he operated a store for several years. He was a member of the Baptist church of Beach Creek and was born in the State of Arkansas on February 7, 1874. Funeral services will be under the direction of Upshaw Funeral Home. Interment wil be made in the Beach Creek cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Luther Martin, three daughters, Mrs. Rosa Jenkins, Olla; Mrs. T.W. Beck, Olla; Mrs. Ola Lyles, Winnsboro; three sons, T.L. Martin, Forest; Odis Martin, Eudora, Ark.; Juluis Martin, Olla. Dr. J.A. Gaharan, coroner of LaSalle Parish empaneled a jury which returned a verdict that Mr. Martin died of self inflicted gunshot wound.
