Monk, 81, almost a lifelong citizen of LaSalle and resident of the Jena area, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Jerry F. Poston, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church, and Rev. Walter W. Stone, pastor of the Mt. Herman Baptist Church of Walters, officiating. Interment was in the Belah Cemetery under the direction of Kinner and Stevens Home for Funerals. Mr. Monk passed away at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at his home in Midway. He was born in Jasper County, Texas, on Jan. 11, 1870. He came to LaSalle as a teenage boy. He was a member of the Baptist denomination and a Mason. He was affiliated with Michael Dempsey lodge No. 327, F and A. M., at Jena. Prior to his retirement he was a local farmer and businessman. For some time he operated a mercantile business at Midway. He is survived by three sons, Mr. Baxter Monk of Tioga, Mr. Arthur Monk of Pollock and Mr. Dennis Monk of Seattle, Wash.; four daughters, Mrs. Evie Hines of Jena, Mrs. C. L. Rambin of Jena, Mrs. Stella Monk of Midway, and Mrs. Jeannie Mooty of Verda; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers at the funeral were Jim Monk, Joe Monk, Earl Monk, Clarence Monk, Clarence Arthur Monk, and Fred Harris.
