He graduated from Olla-Standard High School in 1936. He was born on Jan. 15, 1919, in the Beech Creek area of Winn Parish. He was a retired Chief Hearing Officer with the La. Department of Public Safety, a charter member of the Goodwood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, and a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge No. 164. He was also a veteran of World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for serving in the South Pacific. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the First Baptist Church in Columbia with the Revs. Arthur Achord and Glenn Carroll Meredith officiating. Interment followed in the Welcome Home Cemetery near Grayson under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Audrey Thompson Meredith of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers were Frank Jones, Marion Jones, Charles Plattsmier, Charles Sandifer, Freddy Thompson and Dean Meredith.
