All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: April 14, 1932, Thursday Headline: Boat Capsizes in River Sub: High School Students and Operator of Boat Drown; Three Saved Sub: Tragedy Occurs on Way Home From School Yesterday Sub: Three Members of One Family Perish Sub: Fourth Victim, Tallulah Youth, Was Visiting in Catahoula Three members of one family and the operator of the boat in which they were crossing Little River near Utility in Catahoula Parish, eight miles west of Jonesville, were drowned Wednesday afternoon when the boat capsized. They were returning from school when the tragedy occurred. The dead: Bertha McClure, 17. Troule McClure, 15. Daisy McClure, 13. LaRue McCrady, 23, of Tallulah, who was visiting in the vicinity and was operating the boat. The McClures were children of J. F. McClure, well known planter of the Utility section. The last of the bodies was recovered about 9 o'clock last night. Three younger children who were in the boat at the time of the tragedy were saved. It is said that the younger ones clung to the over-turned boat, while the older ones tried to swim for shore. Authentic detailes as to the actual happenings were not obtainable late last night.
