C-SGM Samuel R. McClure, a native of LaSalle Parish and a veteran soldier, died at his army post in Germany on December 22, from an apparent heart attack. He was 49 years of age and would have retired soon with 30 years of military service. McClure had served with the U. S. Army during World War II, the Korean War, and Viet Nam, serving two hitches each during the Korean and Viet Nam wars. He was a member of the Utility Baptist Church, and a mason. Interment followed at Fort Sill Cemetery at Lawton, Okla., under direction of Ritter-Lawton Funeral Home. Local survivors included six brothers, Ed McClure, Juan McClure, Douglas McClure, Clifford McClure, Abner McClure, and Fred McClure; eight sisters, Rose Young, Lorena Wilson, Myrtle Ensminger, Mildred Lott, Lena Maye Bell, Estelle Barton, Rena Butter, and Julia Miller; and a host of aunts, uncles, and nephews.
