An autopsy, performed by Dr. D. L. Trax, LaSalle Parish Coroner, disclosed the negro had been shot one time, a .38 caliber bullet entering the center of the chest and lodging in the back. The dead man was discovered by another negro when he stumbled over the body in the dark. Investigation by Sheriff's officers revealed the Negro had been shot on the porch of a nearby house occupied by Alzinia Jones, Negress, about 45 years old. The body had been dragged some distance to the spot where it was found. Held for investigation in the slaying, the Jones woman has denied any knowledge of the case although blood was found on her stockings when picked up.
