All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: January 20, 1966 Headline: Services Conducted for Mrs. Mary McGee Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Henrietta Bethards McGee, 91, of West Monroe were held at 2 p.m., Friday in the chapel of Mulhearn's Funeral Home with Dr. Hugh Bradshaw and Dr. Ernest Holloway officiating. Mrs. McGee, a Twin Cities resident since 1902, died at her home early Thursday after an illness of about a year. Burial was in the Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe. Mrs. McGee was the daughter of Mary A. Clark and George Washington Bethards, and was born and raised at White Sulphur Springs. She attended Fayette Academy of Fayette, Miss., and Jena Seminary at Jena, where she received a teacher's certificate. She moved to West Monroe in 1907 and in 1957 was elected the "First Mother of the Year" by the Neville High School alumni association. In 1960, Mrs. McGee was made honorary life member of Women of the Church at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in West Monroe, where she was a charter member. Mrs. McGee is survived by three sons, Warren B. McGee of West Monroe, George O. McGee of New Orleans and Donald W. McGee of Ponca City, Okla.; six daughters, Mrs. roy Grant of Ringgold, Mrs. Mattie Stewart, Mrs. Jennette Mahaffey, and Miss Katie McGee, all of West Monroe, Mrs. Travis A. Brown and Mrs. Fred B. Brownlee, both of Monroe; a sister, Mrs. Harry Buatt of Monroe; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
