He retired after 30 years of service as a wireline operator for Schlumberger and was a member of the Baptist faith. He was the son of the late George Washington and Nola Clark McCartney. He was a life member of VFW Post 1982, a veteran of World War II having served in the First Army, 785th Tank Battalion under Gen. Omar Bradley. Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, at the chapel of David Funeral Home of New Iberia with Rev. Roland Fontenot officiating. Interment followed in the Memorial Park Mausoleum in New Iberia under direction of David Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Irene Barfield McCartney of New Iberia; four daughters, Phyliss Boudreaux, Gloria Thibodeaux, and Karen Williams, all of New Iberia and Darlene Edsall of Ocala, Fla.; one son, Shelby Day of New Iberia; four brothers, Johnny McCartney of Tioga, Charles McCartney of Marion, Aubrey McCartney of Ball, and Freddie McCartney of Sulphur; five sisters, Dorothy Cole of Marksville, Betty Taylor of Tioga, Clara Nicholson of Ft. Worth, Janice Knighton of Baton Rouge and Sue Moran of Opelousas; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Richard Boudreaux, Whitney Boudreaux, Jr., Jarred Edsall, Crisler Thibodeaux, Chuck Williams, and Mike Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Chad Darby, Derick Day, Keith Day, Shawn Day, Steve Edsall, Jamie Segura, and Ricky Simon.
