His death came with shocking suddenness to everyone. Without warning he died on March 16, just as he returned from the field at work. James Madison Netherland was born on Calcosilu River on February 22, 1873. His childhood surroundings wee humble, as were the children of his native community and his education was unknown. He was married to Mrs. R. R. Stapleton in the year 1895. Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Tuesday evening at the Nebo Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Jesse Albritton, the former pastor of the First Baptist Church at Midway. Mr. Ruff offered the opening prayer. He belonged to the Baptist church for about 38 years. Mr. Netherland loved the Bible and he loved his home. He loved God and he loved his many friends which he accepted as a sacred trust. He met death with a smile. He didn't know he was going, but he was not afraid. His was a fine, clean life. Mr. Netherland was survived by his wife, Mrs. R. R. Netherland of Nebo, La., one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Coon, and one stepson, Mr. Simp Stapleton, both of Nebo, La. He has three grandchildren and two-great-grandchildren all of Nebo, La.
