Services were held in the home Saturday, October 6, at 9:00 o'clock a.m. and at the Harrell Cemetery, Pine Grove, Louisiana, at 11:00 o'clock. Reverend J. M. Wilks officiated, assisted by the Reverend Benedict Galloway and Reverend George Horn. Mr. Eugene Hallum, accompanied by Miss Rita Rogers rendered special music. Mrs. nesom was the widow of the late George Wilburn Nesom of Tickfaw, and was the granddaughter of the Reverend John S. Arbuthnot, the first Methodist minister to serve the City of Hammond. She will long be remembered by her loved ones and many friends for her shining example of Christian service to her fellow man. She was especially active in the Methodist Church where she had served as a chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sunday School Superintendent, Member of Board of Stewards and long and faithful devotion to the work of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She made her home a bulwark for the work of the church and her doors were always open to those promoting the Lord's work. Mrs. Nesom's cheerful disposition, warm friendliness and Christian fortitude were a guiding influence on her family and on the hundreds of persons who came to experience her motherly counsel. She had many and varied interests in life, and one hobby, to which she devoted much time, best expresses the inward beauty of her soul. Her exquisite flowers were known far and wide and when she could be persuaded to enter them in competition, they were the recipients of many awards. The abundance of delicate flowers presented at the final service for Mrs. nesom were a silent but an expressive tribute of the love of the numerous friends for this truly great lady. Serving as pallbearers were Mr. Frank Nesom and Mr. Kelvin Nesom of Baton Rouge; Mr. Robert Faller of Tickfaw; Mr. Wilburn N. Stilley, Mr. Lokey Faller, Mr. William D. Allen, Mr. Luther Dyson, and Mr. Roy Hyde, all of Hammond. The Thomas Funeral Home of Hammond was in charge of the arrangements. Surviving the deceased are two sisters, Mrs. John J. Brew of Lincoln, Nebraska, Miss Tomanna Arbuthnot of Alexandria, one brother, Mr. S. V. Arbuthnot of Manifest. Four daughters, Mrs. D. V. Jenkins of Tickfaw, Mrs. Carlton Faller of Hammond, Miss Lucille Nesom of Tickfaw, Miss Ruth Nesom of Houma; one son, Mr. Guy W. Nesom of Natchitoches, and six grandchildren.
