All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: April 17, 1991 Headline: Ernest Eugene Neal Ernest Eugene Neal, 76, of Albuquerque, New Mexico and a native of Jena, died at 2:12 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 1991 at the U.S. veterans Affairs Hospital in Albuquerque from complications following surgery. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served with an armored division in Europe during World War II. Neal was born at Columbia and moved with his family to Jena where, at the age of 12, began his 53 year career in the newspaper business when he joined his older brother, the late Louie J. Neal, at the Jena Times and Olla-Tullos Signal, where he worked until entering the Army in 1943. After his return he worked for newspapers in various Louisiana cities until 1953 when he moved to Albuquerque and began his 26 year career with The Albuquerque Journal, retiring in 1980. Services were at the French Mortuary chapel, with Dr. J. Curtis Goldman, temple Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Park, Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Rita Neal; one daughter, Carol Cappuccilli Bejcek; a son, Jerry J. Neal, all of Albuquerque; two sisters, Doris Neal Risley and Lula Neal Coats, both of Jena; and six grandchildren.
