All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: January 30, 1958 Headline: Mrs. Bettie Powell of Tullos Succumbs Mrs. Bettie Powell, 86, of Tullos, who died at the Hardtner Memorial Clinic in Urania last Thursday afternoon shortly before 5 o'clock, was buried Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, following graveside services held at the Little Star Cemetery near Kelly. The Rev. O. M. Corley, the Rev. John Love and the Rev. Vannah Claunch conducted the final rites, with interment under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Mrs. Powell had resided in Tullos with a daughter, Mrs. Sammie Fife, for the past four or five years and had been in failing health since last October. When her condition worsened last Thursday about 10 a.m., she was rushed to the clinic at Urania where she died later that afternoon. Mrs. Powell is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Minnie Cruse of Ferriday, Mrs. Addie Lowe of Kelly, Mrs. Sammie Fife of Tullos, Mrs. Carrie Hayes of Urania, and Mrs. Rossie Wilson of Urania; a son, Stanley Powell of Olla; a brother, W. W. Brown of Jackson, Miss.; three sisters, Mrs. John McElroy of Meridian, Miss., Mrs. Velma Renfroe of Shreveport and Mrs. Frankie Hubbard of San Francisco, Calif.; 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers for the final rites were six grandsons, Dixie R. Wilson, Buddy Wilson, Alvin Cruse, Billy Wayne Fife, Homer Fife and Stanley B. Hayes.
