Perkins, 67, of Jena, who passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, after a ten-day illness, were held at the First Baptist Church here Monday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. J. P. Owens, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment was in the Nolley Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kinner and Stevens Home for Funerals of Jena. Mr. Perkins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jena. Earlier he was a member of the Cooper Baptist Church. He was employed for several years with the State Highway Dept. He was born at Leesville on Dec. 5, 1883. On Dec. 28, 1905, he was married at Leesville to Miss Josephine B. Spillers, who survives him. Survivors of the deceased besides his wife, Mrs. Josephine Spillers Perkins, are three daughters, Mrs. A. L. Jenkins of Jena, Mrs. Madge Slay of Jena and Mrs. Travis O. Tugwell of New York City; one son, Johnny L. Perkins of Jena; four grandchildren; two brothers, J. N. Perkins of San Angelo, Tex., and L. D. Perkins of Leesville; and one sister, Mrs. Rosa Phillips of California. Pallbearers at the funeral were Alvie Russell, Al Cobb, Lloyd Wishum, Bill Hudgins, S. R. Poland and C. L. Rambin. Musical selections rendered at the services were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," sung by Nick Medica, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "The Home Over There."
