According to Buck Barrett, Sheriff's deputy, who aided Sheriff Floyd in investigating the fire, she was pulled from her bed when a man, delivering films to the Princess Theater at Tullos, noticed that the house, located behind the Eunice Cafe, was afire. Breaking boards from the side of the house, the man, whose name could not be learned, dragged her from her bed. Rushed to the hospital, she died during the day. Questioned by the Sheriff's Department, another negro woman, whose first name is Mary said she visited with Rose until about 11:00 p. m., during which time they consumed a quantity of whiskey. She stated that Rose was sitting on the bed when she left.
