All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: March 19, 1931 Headline: John Wesley Rodgers Dies Wednesday at Whatley, Alabama John Wesley Rodgers, 75 years of age, died at his home in Whatley, Ala., on Wednesday, March 11 at 6:40 p.m. after suffering declining health for the past two years. Although the deceased had been in ill health, he was only confined to his bed for ten days, asthma of the heart being the cause of death. Mr. Rodgers was a member of the Methodist Church, having joined the church at Prichard, Ala., in early life. Funeral services were held at Amity Church, near Whatley, on Friday, March 13 at 2 o'clock, with interment in Amity Cemetery. Surviving are Mrs. A. C. Warner of Jena, Miss Myrtle Rodgers of Monroe, Mrs. J. C. Reeves of Newellton, daughters; Mr. J. T. Rodgers of Montgomery, brother; and Mrs. M. E. Pine of Alexandria, sister. The above, accompanied by Mrs. George Auld and Everett Warner, attended the funeral. Mr. Rodgers was well known in Jena and The Times joins in extending deepest sympathy to the surviving relatives.
