W. Vice on Highway near Mother's Home Wednesday Sub-Headline: Vice Arrested; Said to Have Record of Being Reckless Driver (Article was in two parts.) #1 Mildred Reames, 11 years of age, died at the Rapides Infirmary, at 8:30 Wednesday night as the result of injuries received when she was struck by a car said to have been driven by C. W. Vice. Vice was arrested on a reckless driving charge, but it was indicated by officials here after the death that a charge of manslaughter would be placed against him. Vice is said by many Jena people to have a reputation of speeding and reckless driving. #2 Mildred Reames, 11 years of age, daughter of Mrs. E. W. Reames of Midway, was struck by a car driven by C. W. Vice, of Mobile, Ala., as she alighted from a school bus near her home about 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. After being examined by Drs. Kittrell, Butler and Reithman, who did all that was possible for the injured, she was rushed to the Rapides Sanitarium in Alexandria. Preliminary examination indicated that a fractured skull had resulted from the accident, it was stated by local physicians. Funeral arrangements had not been announced at press time Wednesday night. Vice is said to have once been employed by a drug store at Good Pine, but is reported to have recently been living at Mobile, Ala. Reports are that he did all that was possible to aid in getting the best of medical treatment for the girl after the accident.
