He was retired as a self-employed worker in the pulpwood industry and was a veteran of the United States military. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 15, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Chatham. Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery, located on Hwy. 4 near Chatham, under direction of Edmonds Funeral home of Jonesboro. Survivors include three daughters, Tammy Marie Evans, Donna Jean King and Mary Elizabeth Pate, all of Olla; one son, Thomas Wayne Ramsey of Columbia; four sisters, Bessie Mae Ramsey of Jena, Irene Lowery of Choudrant, Mildred Taylor of West Monroe; and Marie McCroy of West Monroe; three brothers, Jessie Ramsey of Olla, Clyde Ramsey of Kelly, and Clifton Ramsey of Chatham; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one on the way. Pallbearers were Tracy Beamoffer, Chris Hartley, David King, Jr., Joseph King, Michael Pate, James Ramsey and Samuel "Pee Wee" Ramsey.
