Southerland, 81, a retired grocery store manager, died in the Jena Hospital last Sunday. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a veteran of World War I. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the First Baptist Church in Jena with Rev. Ed Snell and Rev. Larry Robertson, officiating. Burial was in the Oak Wood Cemetery of Conroe, Texas, under arrangements by Hixson Brothers, Inc., of Jena. Survivors include two brothers, Luther Southerland of Arkadelphia, Ark., and Claude Southerland, of Little Rock, Ark.; and one sister, Mrs. John G. Evans of Oklahoma; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were J. F. Justiss, Robert Gray, George Shelton, Barney Basham, Bill Allbritton, and M. F. Humphries.
