She had been suffering for some time from high blood pressure and her death comes as a shock to her many friends and relatives throughout this entire section. Mrs. Smith was born in Catahoula Parish on October 31, 1870, the daughter of Josephus Hailey. She was twice married, first in 1888 and the second time in 1899. She is survived by four sons and four daughters as follows: Addie May Coon, Josephus Coon, William Coon, Mrs. Lilly Smith, Albert Smith, of Jena; Mrs. Mattie Taylor, Jonesville; and, Mrs. Mary Graham, Jena. She also leaves one brother, Samie Hailey, Jena; four sisters, Mrs. Julia Methvin, Trout; Mrs. Rosalie Kuhn, Rhinehart, Mrs. Green Masters, Eden, and Mrs. Lizdie Parker, Trout. Funeral services were held at Pine Grove Friday afternoon with interment in the cemetery at that place. Rev. L. D. Posey, pastor of the Jena Baptist Church, of which Mrs. Smith was a devout member, officiated.
