Headline:  Mr. Claud F. Sheppard Dies Suddenly at Home in Shreveport

Claud Frederick Sheppard, age 61 years, a member of a well known LaSalle 
Parish family, died suddenly at his home in Shreveport, La., about 6 p.m., 
Monday, January 14.  Death was caused by a heart ailment.

Mr. Sheppard was born March 3, 1884, in Jackson Parish, the son of Rev. and 
Mrs. B. H. Sheppard.

He finished high school and later attended Centenary College at Shreveport.  
In 1910, he was married to Jessie May Selser of Baton Rouge, where the couple 
resided for some time afterward.  To this union were born one son and one 
daughter:  Lt. Ben Sheppard, San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Joe Durham, 
Atlanta, Ga.

Early in life Mr. Sheppard embraced the Methodist faith and for 36 years 
served faithfully in the ministry of that church until failing health forced 
his retirement.  He was employed by the State Department of Revenue at 
Shreveport at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Masonic Order.

Body of the deceased was brought to the Methodist Church in Jena at 5 o'clock 
Tuesday afternoon and remained in state until the funeral hour at 10 a.m. 
Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Rev. J. H. Sewell, pastor of Nolley Methodist Church, conducted the services. 
 Mr. Earl Mann sang a number and Rev. S. A. Seegers brought the funeral 
message.  Interment was in Nolley Memorial Cemetery.

Members of the family left to mourn his passing are: his mother, Mrs. B. H. 
Sheppard, Jena, the son, Lt. Ben Sheppard, San Antonio, Texas, the daughter, 
Mrs. Joe Durham, Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, H. A. Sheppard, Baton Rouge, and 
eight sisters, Mrs. C. E. Abramson, Baton Rouge; Mrs. E. E. Bishop, 
Shreveport; Mrs. Marriane Brown, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. J. T. Townsend, Mrs. 
W. H. Bishop, Mrs. T. A. Bradford, and Miss Bennie Sheppard, all of Jena.

Pallbearers were:  Ernest Andrews Milton Posey, L. B. Portier, E. E. Jones, 
C. C. Russell, A. L. Breithaupt.

Honorary pallbearers were:  Members of the Methodist Conference and personnel 
of the State Revenue Office of Shreveport.

Out-of-town friends and relatives attending the funeral included:  Mr. and 
Mrs. S. T. Cordill, Sulphur, La.; Mrs. W. H. Millsaps, Oakdale, and Mr. J. P. 
Durham, Atlanta, Ga.

Kinner and Stevens conducted funeral arrangements.
