Smith, Sr., 84, of Jena, died at 9:35 a.m., Friday, July 9, 1999, at the St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was retired as vice president of Bank of Jena after serving in the banking industry for over a half century. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Jena. He was born in Jena on June 17, 1915, to the union of William and Nancy Caroline Smith. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 11, at the First Baptist Church in Jena with the Revs. Byron Norris, Walter Lloyd and Dominick Dicarlo officiating. Interment followed in the Nolley Memorial Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral home of Jena. Survivors include one daughter, Emily Smith Doughty of West Monroe; one son, Carl Smith of Jena; two sisters, Oneta Creed of Jena and Sis Tucker of Shreveport; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were David Smith, Paul Smith, Wray Page, Jr., Wray Page, III, John Ray Peyton, and Chuck Smith. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the First Baptist Church of Jena.
