All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Date: September 12, 1929 Headline: Foster Sims is Killed Sunday in Tullos Fight Sub-Headline: John Gutophalus in Jail to Await Trial for Tullos Slaying Foster Sims, aged 33, is dead and John Gustophalus, Greek restaurant owner of Tullos, is being held in the parish jail in Jena charged with the slaying. The killing occurred in the restaurant owned by Gustophalus at Tullos Sunday afternoon. According to information reaching the sheriff's office, Sims and Gustophalus are alleged to have engaged in an altercation over $2.50 that the Greek had promised to pay on a fine assessed in the city court at Tullos. Gustophalus is alleged to have shot Sims when the latter entered his restaurant after the altercation in another part of town. Five shots are said to have been fired. Sims died while being conveyed to an Alexandria hospital. Funeral services were held for the dead man at Wyatt, Louisiana, at ten o'clock Tuesday morning. He is survived by the following relatives: Wiley Sims, Gandy, La.; Page Sims, Winnfield; J. Y. Sims, Cotton Valley; Sim Sims, Ruston; T. W. Sims, Georgetown; Sam Sims, Jr., of Zwolle; and Miss Mila Sims, Chicago, Ill. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Sam Sims, who lives at Winnfield, where the remains were taken pending funeral arrangements. (Gutophalus and Gustophalus were used as typed above.)
