Dwight Thomas of Columbia died late Friday afternoon enroute to the LaSalle General Hospital after collapsing at the track meet. Jena High School Principal Robert L. Coleman said the youth was practicing for a jump and he had a cramp in his leg. He laid down to be given a massage and passed out, according to Coleman. "They tried to revive him with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and heart massage on the way to the hospital," he said. Caldwell High Athletic Director Frank Mancil said Thomas was a junior in his first year of track as a triple jumper. An autopsy was performed to determine the cause of death, but on Tuesday, the autopsy report had not been completed and was not available for publication.
