He was a member of Jonesboro Methodist Church, the Jonesboro-Hodge Kiwanis Club, a Mason and a Shriner. He graduated from Jena High School and the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science. A veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II, Mr. Thompson was retired and was the former owner of Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Jonesboro United Methodist Church with Dr. Herb Dickerson and the Revs. Bryan Moore and Gene Cumpton officiating. Interment followed in Gayla Traina Cemetery near Jonesboro under direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thompson of Jonesboro; one daughter, Terry Kohler of Lake Charles; one son, David Thompson of Jonesboro; two sisters, Judy Small of Paducah, Ky., and Lou Taylor of Deville; and two grandsons. Pallbearers were J. H. Byrd, Joey Earle, Eddie Gatlin, Kent McBride, Johnny Mac Schmidt, M. H. Walker, Eddie Walpole, and Richard Zuber.
