He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, in the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home in Columbia with the Revs. John Spears and Willie Beaubeouf officiating. Interment followed in the Shady Grove Cemetery near Sikes under direction of Riser and Son, Columbia. Survivors include three sons, Joe Taylor of Shreveport, James Monroe Taylor, Jr., of Olla and Jerry Taylor of Yuba City, Calif.; one daughter, Judy Wilkes of Elberton, Ga.; one brother, Dalton Taylor of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Billie Ford of Olla, Vaudine Crain of Columbia and Ernestine Mercer of Tioga; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were James Monroe Taylor III, Gavin Prudhomme, Joel Prudhomme and Lloyd Gough.
