She was born in Kelly on January 3, 1911, to the union of Hardy and Georgia McDaniel Keen. She was a homemaker and an insurance agent for Riser Funeral Home for many years. She had been a resident of Urania for the past 60 years and was a member of the Olla Assembly of God Church. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 23, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with the Revs. Eddie Thompson and Carolyn Volentine officiating. Interment followed in Welcome Home Cemetery near Grayson under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Survivors include her daughter, LaRaye V. Bourgeois of West Monroe; her son, Bernard Volentine of Jena; her sister, Mildred Jones of Dallas, Texas; her half-sister, Elouise Renfrow of Shreveport; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were her great-grandsons: Kenneth Volentine, Michael Volentine, Bryan Volentine, John Volentine, David Brooks and Sherman Brooks. Honorary pallbearers were Freddie Penniger and Chad Bourgeouis.
