Whatley passed away at his home in White Sulphur Springs Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. December 10th, after a lingering illness of several months. He was 86 years and 9 months old. He united with the Methodist church early in his manhood. Funeral services were held at the family residence Thursday at 3 p.m., December 11 with Rev. J.A. Cain of Urania officiating. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Arch A. Whatley, 3 sons, U.X., Arch and Bert, all of White Sulphur Springs; 2 daughters, Mrs. Martha Whatley of White Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Whatley of Calvin; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and a host of friends. Interment took place at the LaCroix and Whatley cemetery in White Sulphur Springs. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hixon Bros. Funeral Home of Jena. Pall bearers were: Walter Dayton, Vincent Whatley, John Greer, Henry Whatley, Joe Ganey, Ed Hawhorne, J.B. Boddie and J.F. Gelvin.
