Whatley Buried Saturday at Cemetery in Belah Mrs. Jane Rebecca Whatley, 73, a lifelong resident of this area and descended from an old, established family of the Catahoula-LaSalle Parish area, was buried Saturday morning following services held at the Belah Methodist Church near Jena. A member of the Hurricane Creek Baptist Church, Mrs. Whatley was the wife of Charlie Whatley of Trout route. He survives her. The Revs. S. B. Spinks, Clifton Ganey and Champ Breeden conducted the final rites at Belah Methodist Church, with interment in Belah Cemetery following under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Whatley is survived by three sons, Tom, Walter and Quitman, all of Trout route; five daughters, Mrs. Hattie Price, Mrs. Martha French, Mrs. Maudie Hatfield and Ms. Lola Guilde, all of Trout route, and Mrs. Mollie Williams of Jena; a brother, Eddie Brooks of Trout route; four sisters, Mrs. Josephine Jones of Jonesville, Mrs. Thelma Crawford of Harrisonburg, Mrs. Tommie Sanders of Jena, and Mrs. Charlotte Tarver of Jena; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Graveside rites also were held at the cemetery by the three ministers conducting the church services. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Thompson, John Lee Dayton, George Hassan, Angelo Willard, Jimmie Tatman, and M-Sgt Lonnie B. Price.
