C. Walker, Negro, convicted in district court in Jena several months ago and sentenced to a term in the state penitentiary for cattle stealing, was accidentally drowned last Saturday while seining for fish in a bayou near the penal farm. It seems that Walker and several other prisoners were in the seining party when Walker evidently stepped into a deep hole in the bayou. Reports are to the effect that the body never came to the top of the water after going down. The body was recovered five hours later in the bayou by associates. Walker's family in Jena was notified and arrangements were made for Kinner and Stevens, local undertakers, to go to Angola for the body which was brought here late Monday evening.
