"Uncle Pete" was a well-known citizen, having lived at his farm home some forty-five years or more. He was a member of the M. E. Church at Lewis Chapel, where he faithfully attended until he became too feeble to go. He was born in Catahoula Parish between Jena and Harrisonburg on August 12, 1858, and later came to Grant Parish to homestead a place on which he made his home until his death. He was married to Kizzie Price on March 12, 1896, and there were nine children born to their happy union. He was sick only thirteen days, but never complained of anything. He was always happy and had a jolly word for all those that came around him. He was so feeble until he couldn't get around much and he sang old familiar church songs most of the time. His choice song was "O How I Love Jesus, Because He First Loved Me." He always welcomed his friends and relatives who came to see him for he liked to hear all the news. Being almost blind and deaf prevented him from his reading which he was especially devoted to. He was laid to rest in the Georgetown Cemetery, the services being conducted by the Rev. Henry Lewis, a life-long friend and pastor of the church where he was a member. Besides his wife and five children as follows: Douglas and Fred Wooten, of Rochelle; Mrs. Daisy Davis of Standard; Mrs. Valla Black and Mrs. Fairy Powell of Rochelle, he has one sister, Mrs. Ellen McCollum of Georgetown, and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ada Sketoe, of Georgetown, also a host of grandchildren and other relatives.
