Was Escape Convict John L. Washington, colored, who was killed while resisting arrest near Trout Saturday night, June 28, was finger printed by the state police and according to information obtained by the local sheriff's department was an escaped convict from the state penitentiary at Parchman, Miss., where he was known as Percy Martin and was serving a 15 year sentence for burglary. He escaped from the penitentiary October of 1940 where he had been Serving time since April 1938. The Negro had been around Trout only about a week and had proved to be quite a trouble maker. The local sheriff's force was endeavoring to search the automobile driven by Geo. Irving in which John Washington and 2 others were riding.
