The fight was over a colored man and occurred on the highway between Trout and Trout Bridge, climaxing when Curlee Williams was stabbed in the heart, dying five minutes after she was taken to Dr. Trax's office in Trout. Dr. J. A. Gaharan, coroner of LaSalle Parish, impaneled a jury and verdict rendered charged Bertha Jane Hassen with manslaughter.
