He was a retired employee of the U.S. Forestry Service and a veteran of World War I. Funeral services were held Monday, at the Fellowship Baptist Church with the Revs. S.B. Spinks, G.R. Nolan, Wayne Pounders, John Ed Snell and Max Billings, officiating. Interment followed in Belah Cemetery of Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers Inc., of Jena. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Rosa Russell Parker of Trout; six daughters, Mrs. Louise Mitchell and Mrs. Lerita Richardson, both of Jena, Mrs. Mary Valentine, Mrs. Christine Reeves and Mrs. Sybil Evans, all of Trout, and Mrs. Ruby Lee of Shreveport; four sons, R.M. Parker, Jr., Harold C. Parker and Eldred L. Parker, all of Jena, and Jessis M. Parker of Pearland, Texas; three brothers, Fred Parker of Shreveport, S.M. Parker of Reeves and J.D. Parker of Ames, Iowa; five sisters, Mrs. Marie Brown of Nebo, Mrs. Grace Gaudin, Mrs. Callie Gogns, Miss Mattie Parker and Mrs. Clara Thompson, all of Shreveport; 27 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were J.W. Nix, Tommy Parker, Maxie Parker, Alex Thomas, Gary Parker and Lloyd Wilcox. (The Jena Times, Thursday, January 17, 1974)
