PAYNE, Charles

 Charles Payne, a retired welder from Caldwell Parish, and a resident of
Jena since early this year, died last Friday night, August 16, 1974 at the
LaSalle General Hospital.

 Mr. Payne, a member of the Baptist Church, had moved to Jena early this year
after closing his welding shop at Columbia, where he had worked for many 
years. He and his wife had purchased a home on Carpenter Street in Jena and
had been in the process of remodeling the home since they moved to Jena.

 Funeral services wwere held Monday at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens
Funeral Home in Jena with Rev. Kenneth Boyd officiating.

 Interment followed at Jena Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and
Stevens Funeral Home.

 Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Payne of Jena; two daughters, Mrs.
Sherry Herles of Trout and Mrs. Betty Meyer of Kelly; two brothers, Vernon
Cooper of Monroe and Ralph Payne of Bastrop; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Kopperel
of Florence, Miss. and Mrs. Flo Silvery of Baton Rouge and eight grand-
children.
