POWELL, Robert Lamar, Sr.

56 of Jena died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997 in LaSalle General Hospital
of Jena.

   He was Area Production Foreman for Southwestern Louisiana and
Eastern Texas Torch Operating Company.

   He was also an ordained Baptist deacon and Music Director at 
Calvary Heights Baptist Church in Jena.

   Services were held Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997 in the chapel of Hixson
Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

   Interment followed in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery under the direction
of Hixson Brothers Inc. of Jena.

   Survivors include his wife, Janie Powell of Jena; two daughters,
Janet Hopkins of Jena and Donna Wilson of West Monroe; two
sons, Buddy Powell and Bill Powell, both of Jena; three sisters
Clarice Sherrill of Jena, Mary Jo Masters of Trout, and Violet 
Atwell of Montrose, Colorado; one brother, John Milton Powell of
Crosby, Tx.; and 11 grandchildren.
