Peyton, 72, of Shubuta, Miss., and a native of Jena, died at 2:10 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He was a retired restaurant owner and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was born June 21, 1926, at Jena, to the union of George Oscar and Dollie Melinda Ford Peyton. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 27, at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with the Revs. Michael Moss and Jimmy Keene officiating. Interment followed in the Nolley Memorial Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc., of Jena. Survivors include one sister, Emma Katherine Day of Elizabeth Town, Ky., and one brother, John Ray Peyton of Lafayette; two nephews and ten nieces. Pallbearers were Ed Tatum, John Moss, Dan Moss, Carl Smith, Don Chapman, and Cedric Chapman.
