Riddle, Jr., 87, and residence of Golden Age Nursing Center in Jena for several years, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, 1998, at the nursing home. He was a former Assistant Deputy Postmaster General in Washington, D.C., Former Mayor of Marksville and a Major in the U.S. Army during World War II. Two weeks ago, Riddle was featured in a story appearing in this newspaper about a recent visit from the Adjutant General of the Louisiana National Guard, Brigadier Gen. Bennett Landreneau. While in Jena for the annual Christmas Parade, Landreneau learned that Riddle was a resident at Golden Age and plans were made for the visit. As Mayor of Marksville, Riddle was instrumental in forming the first Gaurd Unit for that city back in the mid-1940's. He was elected Mayor after returning home from World War II where he served in counter intelligence in Europe. Services for Riddle were held at 11 a.m. Wednasday, January 7, at Marksville Nazarene Church with Rev. Gary Jones officiating. Interment followed in Marksvile Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Viola Riddle of Jena; two daughters, Deborah Guillory of Jena and Pamela Thibodaux of Natchitoches; one sister, Beverly Fae Riddle of Marksville; eight grandchildren and three great-grand- children.
