Rushing, 78, of Olla, died Monday, January 19, 1998, at St.Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was a retired pharmacist having owned and operated Rushings Pharmacy in Olla for over 50 years. He was also a veteran of World War II. He was born May 3, 1919, in Chestnut to the union of Newton Jasper and Emily Melissa Rushing. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 21 at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Ola with Rev. James Brown Officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser, Olla. Survivors include his wife, Jean Chafin Rushing of Olla; one son, Clinton Benjamin Rushing, Jr., of Greeley, CO.; one daughter, Gloria Faye Fitzgerald of Trout; two step-sons, Dale Thompson and Doug Thompson, both of Olla; two brothers, Ray Rushing of Houston, Texas and Terral Rushing of Sterling, Texas; two sisters, Mary Marek of Shreveport and Mercile Ainsworth of Minden; and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jeffery Fitzgerald, Brian Fitzgerald, Jim Thompson, Harry Rushing, Risk Smotherman, Eddie Coolman, Brian Bond and Douglas Thompson. (The Jane Times, Wednesday, January 28, 1998)
