His body was recovered near Harrisonburg around 6 p.m. Sunday, about two hours after he drowned, according to Catahoula Parish Sheriff Thomas Jackson. Deputies said a resident heard Randall's calls for help and tried unsuccessfully to swim out to him. "They said the water was so cold they couldn't swim in it," Jackson ssaid. "They went to get someone with a boat, but by the time they got back it was too late." Jackson said investigators are still trying to determine why Randall was attempting to swim in the cold bayou. "He stopped by a house, asked for a drink of water and told the person there that he had a boat under the hill," Jackson said. "Maybe he was attempting to swim to the other side to retrieve a boat. We did not see any boat." Jackson said Randall had pulled his shirt and shoes off before going into the water. "We know he could swim," the sheriff said. "The water was cold and maybe he got cramps. I don't know." The body was sent to a pathologist for an autopsy "to determine if anything else may have been involved." Funeral services for Randall will be held at 10 a.m. (today) Wednesday in Myers Bend Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Bill Cotton, David Poole and Claude Terrell officiating.
