He was a native of Good Pine. He was a 21-year retired employee of American Oil Company and a 12 year retiree from Richie Grocery. He was a veteran of World War II and the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a 1950 graduate of La. Tech with a B.S. degree in chemistry and an active member of Grace Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher and director, deacon and chairman of deacons and church treasurer. He was active in local community activities including Boys Club, youth baseball and the Norphlet High School Student Council conferences. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Grace Baptist Church in El Dorado with the Revs. Charles Ray, A.D. Stuckey, and Johnny Johnstone, officiating. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery of El Dorado under direction of Young's Funeral Directors of El Dorado. Survivors include his wife, Azoline Stevens Rhodes of El Dorado; two sons, Steven Rhodes of Winnfield and Ralph Rhodes of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Jo Ann Pickering of West Monroe and Cathy Reed of Natchez, Miss.; nine grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Richard Traversi, Herman Townsend, Clyde Townsend, Therold Dumas, Amos Reynolds, James Ludwig and Winfred May. Honorary pallbearers were Norman Certer, Cline McDaniel, Richard Lawrence, Gary Davis, Wayne Hardy, Bob Smith, Billy McGee, Nathan Rhodes, Chad Rhodes, Trey Pickering and Russell Reed.
