Ray, 94, Dies, Burial Was At Cypress Creek Funeral services were held Monday at 4 p.m. at the Cypress Creek Baptist Church for James Spencer Ray, 94, former pastor of the Cypress Creek Baptist Church, who died in Jena Sunday at 7 a.m. Rev. Ray was born June 13, 1855 near Birmingham, Ala., the son of James Ray and Jane McCallum. He became a Baptist at the age of 17. Coming to Louisiana a few years later, he settled in Winn Parish and married in 1877 Mary Alice Barrett, who preceded him in death by several years. Of the four sons and four daughters born to their union, the following survive: Luther Ray, May Pearl, Texas; Roy Ray, Nebo; Amos Ray, and Mary Ray of California; Mrs. Emma Lou Masters of Nebo. The deceased also left many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment was in the Cypress Creek Cemetery. (Submitted by Greggory Ellis Davies, Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA.)
