Clippings at the LaSalle Parish Library located in Jena, LaSalle Parish, LA Date: November 9, 1988, Wednesday Headline: Eddie Yancey Roark Eddie Yancey Roark, 78, of Summerville, died at 12:07 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 1988, at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. Roark was a former teacher beginning in the days when all grades met in one and two rooms. He attended Louisiana Tech University and taught at many schools in LaSalle Parish LA. Among those were the old Aimoch School in Nickel community, at Antioch School in Antioch in 1933, at Summerville School, also Thayer School at Little Creek. He was teacher at Crossroads, Magnolia, and Ebernezer. He also at one time was located at the Jena Elementary School. During the Second World War, Mr. Roark worked in a defense plant in Orange, Texas. He was employed at one time by the Jena Post Office and then by the Louisiana Dept. of highways. He retired in November 1973 and resided at Summerville until his death. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Summerville Free Methodist Church with Rev. Finas Corie and Rev. Aaron Paul Erwin officiating. Burial followed in Aimoch Cemetery in the Nickel Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Audie Rose Flowers Roark of Summerville; a daughter, Nelda R. Russell of Jena; a son, David M. Roark Sr. of Trout; a brother, Clarence L. Roark of Jena; a sister, Rosa R. Andrews of Nickel Community and six grandchildren. Pallbearers were Max Andrews, Ken R. Roark, Ohmar Roark, Donald Roark, Glen Roark and N. H. Poole. Date: Wednesday, January 22, 2003, page 3B Headline: Eddice Crooks Roberts Eddice Crooks Roberts, 90, of Cypress Bayou, died at 12:15 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2003, in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center in Alexandria. She was born in the small community of Bethel in Rapides Parish on August 11, 1912. Her parents were Wesley and Lillie Crooks and she was the baby girl of ten children. When she finished the seventh grade, the Crooks fa,ily moved several miles east to the French Fork community on Cypress Bayou, where she resided until her death. In August 1936, she married Shack Roberts and after staying close to her husband while he served in the CCC, the couple saved enough to buy land and a house on Cypress Bayou. They paid $800 for 40 acres of prime farm land and later purchased another 60 acres, land which the family still farms today. Mrs. Roberts was featured in the Times-Signal "Citizen Profile" in August 2002, as she turned 90-years of age. Services were held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan/ 19, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Bobby Ensminger, James Pruitt, and Ronnie Tarver officiating.
