"Steve" Stephens, 81, of Jena, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, February 27, 1998, at the St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was a retired sailor having served in the United States Navy for more than 20 years including service during World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. A member of Midway Baptist Church, he was born May 14, 1916, at Gilbert to the union of Riley and Minnie Clark Stephens. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Rick Feazell officiating. Burial followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc., of Jena. Survivors include one son, Bobby L. Stephens of Pineville; three daughters, Sue Morris of Pollock, Patsy Garifo of Jena and Ruthy Thames of Summerville; two sisters, Dolly Paul and Louise Volbert, both of Alexandria; four grand- children, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Rex Andrews, Pete Hopkins, Buddy Dupuis, Ernest Roy Smith, Cecil Duncan and Ricky Thornton.
