Smith, 69, of Jonesville, died Tuesday, November 3, 1998 at his residence. Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in Paigah Baptist Church of Manifest with the Revs. Larry Tucker, Frank Bass and Jack Colclasure officiating. Interment followed in the Heard's Cemetery under direction of Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service. He was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, training union teacher and Sunday school superintendent. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 349 of Ozark, Ala., a Gideon of Jonesville and Ferriday Camp, VFW of Jonesville, Cattleman's Association and plot manager of Heard's Cemetery. He was an employee of Manifest Grocery. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Smith of Jonesville; four sons, Roger Smith of San Antonio, Texas, Rocky Smith of Montgomery, Ala., Randy Smith of Lewisburg, Ky., and Robbie Smith of Manifest; one brother, Tommy Smith of Jonesville; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were members of U.S. Army Honor Guard.
