All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Lynn Steed, 53, Dies Suddenly Of Heart Attack Funeral services will be held at the Trout Methodist church near Jena Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for Eddie Lynn Steed, chief clerk of the Goodpine district of Placid Oil company. The Rev. Fred Kelly will officiate. Mr. Steed who had been with the company some 25 years, died suddenly Wednesday night about 7:15 o'clock from a heart attack while playing tennis on Placid Oil company's courts at Goodpine. He and Dr. W. D. Swackhamer were playing Charles McCartney and Leonard Richey when he was felled by the seizure. Dr. Swackhamer gave immediate medical attention but Mr. Steed failed to regain consciousness and did not rally from stimulant administered by the doctor. Death was instantaneous. A native of Winnsboro, Tex., Mr. Steed was a member of the Trout Methodist church and active in civic affairs of this area. He also was an active sportsman and recently had assisted in the development of the first annual LaSalle parish tennis tournament. He closely followed the fortunes of the Jena high school football team and often drove long distances to see the team in action. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Steed of Goodpine; a daughter, Mary Lynn Steed of Auburn, Calif.; a son, Nevin, of Goodpine; his mother, Mrs. Effie Steed of Childress, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Palmer also of Texas; and eight brothers, Bob, Allison and Bernice, all of Childress; Dr. Joe Steed of Wichita Falls, Texas; John of Fort Worth, C. W. of Arkansas, Hilton of Shreveport and Gerald of Ruston. Kinner and Stevens Home for Funerals, Jena, has charge of Arrangements. The body will rest at the family residence in Goodpine, near Jena, until time for the services.
