SARGENT IS CALLED BY DEATH SUNDAY EVENING Harrisonburg Mayor and Publisher Succombs in Alexandria Funeral services were held at the family residence in Harrisonburg on Monday afternoon for E. J. Sargent; editor of the Catahoula News and mayor of that city. Interment followed in the Harrisonburg cemetery where quite a large crowd of citizens had gathered to pay their last respects to one of Catahoula parish's most prominent citizens. Mr. Sargent, who was known as "Eddie" to his newspaper brethern and to almost every citizen in Catahoula parish, had been sick for the past two weeks, having suffered from a bronchitis attack. For several months he had been trouble with a weak heart and it is thought that this prohibited his physical condition from withstanding the attack of bronchitis. He was conveyed to the Rapides Hospital in Alexandria on Saturday, but death came on Sunday evening at 8:30. The Catahoula editor purchased the Catahoula News about eight years ago and despite several setbacks, occasioned by high water and several poor crop years, had made a phenominal success, He was drafted by his people as mayor about three years ago and was again elected in the primary of the past year. During his term as mayor a waterworks system has been installed and the town has secured electric lights. A cotten gin was erected and a long dreamed of bridge across the Ouchita at the palce will soon be started. Mr. Sargent's untiring efforts had much to do with bringing all of these improvements about. Surviving the deceased are two daughters and one son, his wife having preceded him to the grave a few years ago. He also leaves his mother and several sisters and brothers, as well as a score of other relatives to mourn his passing. The Time joins with the citizens of Catahoula and LaSalle parish in extending sincere sympathy to the family of this good man.
