All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Prominent citizen of Jena dies Mildred Kinner Stevens, 84, a prominent Jena citizen and business woman for over a half century, died at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday morning, February 5, 1991, at LaSalle general Hospital of Jena. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late Leroy and Belva Kinner, Mrs. Stevens moved with her parents to Jena in 1926. She was married to the late Monroe G. Stevens. In 1927, Leroy Kinner and Monroe Stevens established Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home where Mrs. Stevens worked for the next 56 years, or until 1982. She attended the University of Nebraska and Southern Methodist University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Mrs. Stevens was a charter member and past president of the Jena Garden and Civic Club, past Worthy Matron of the Ruby Chapter of the Eastern Star and Camp Fire Girl leader and a member of Jena First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School class for over fifty years. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7th, at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Arnold Norsworthy and H. Emitte Belgard, officiating. Burial will follow at Nolley Memorial Methodist Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include one daughter, Susan Smith of Atlantic Beach, Florida and one son, Jerry M. Stevens of Jena; and four grandchildren. Pallbears will be Bob Butler, N.H. Poole, Norman Welch, Clyde Allbritton, Tommy Wright, and Alonzo Taylor.
