Thornton, Sr., 60, of Jena, died a 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, may 28, 1998, at LaSalle General hospital of Jena. He was a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Faith Temple Church of Trout with the Revs. John Morgan and Kevin Coffman officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery of Trout under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Thornton of Jena; his mother, Areola Thornton of Livingston; six sons, Steve Thornton, of Denham Springs, Willie Morris Thornton, Jr., of Livingston, Chris Thornton and Tim Thornton, both of Colyell, Tony Thornton and Jeff Thornton, both of Jena; two sisters, Carrie Chambers of Gonzales and Tootsie Mullins of French Settlement; five brothers, Pete Thornton, Jim Thornton, Doc Thornton and Dickie Thornton, all of Colyell and Don Thornton of Jena; and six grandchildren.
