He was born April 21, 1930 in Wallace Ridge to Luther and Beatrice P. Watson. He was retired district manager of Enron Oil and Transportation Co. He was a member of Wallace Ridge Baptist Church where he serve on the board of deacons. He was a lifelong resident of Catahoula Parish, a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Gideon International-Jonesville Camp. Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, in Wallace Ridge Baptist Church with the Revs. Huey Tarpley and Bernon Netherland officiating. Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery near Manifest under direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday. Survivors include his wife, Doris Myers Watson of Jonesville; one son, Melvin Watson, Jr. of Jena; three daughters, Renee Smith, Becky Winborne and Necie Barker, all of Jonesville; two brothers, L. W. "Cub" Watson and Ray Watson, both of Jonesville; two sisters, Vera Routon and Lula Morris, both of Jonesville; and 11 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ricky Morris, Charles Taylor, Wren Tyler, Bill Mannon, Roger Harris, Perry Aplin, Conley Manning and Marty Francis. Honorary pallbearers were Mose Poole, Harry King, Poole Chapman, Dr. Freedman and Enron employees.
