A cave-in occurred while he was loading a truck, covering both Walker and the truck. He was working alone and the body was not found until about seven hours after he had last been seen goin to the pit. The body was taken to Dodson, La., his former home for interment. It is said that Walker feared that danger lurked in the pit for him and had told his wife that in the event he did not return home when he had been working there to send to the pit and see if all was well. Saturday when he failed to return home for lunch at the regular hour, Mrs. Walker became worried and in company with a friend went to the pit. A large portion of the truck had been covered by the cave-in but the body was not visible. Mrs. Walker, still hoping that her husband had escaped harm, returned to Jena to look for him. When news of the cave-in spread, a rescue party was formed and taken to the pit. Several tons of gravel covered Walker and his truck and it was some time before the workers could recover the body. One foot was pinned down by a large boulder which required several men to move it. Those present believe that death was instant. Walker is survived by his widow and one small child, and his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Walker, with whom he had made his home since infancy. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the LaSalle Burial association. Two highway workers, R. Lee McLendon and Roy Ainsworth, were killed by a cave- in in the same pit on March 19 of last year.
